中医出现在欧洲已经350年了，特别在近30年得到了长足的发展。

Chinese medicine was transmitted to Europe more than 350 years ago; its development has been particularly rapid during the past 30 years.

中医从古老的中国来到科学技术高度发展的西方，这不是历史的偶然而是历史的必然。同样的道理和事实，不是中国人为了寻求中医的发展而来到西方，而是西方人为了维护他们的卫生健康和治疗疾病的需要，发现了中医对他们的益处，接纳了来自远方异域的中医。

It is not a coincidence but an inevitable outcome historically that Chinese medicine has now risen in the West where modern medicine was well developed. It was not that the Chinese wanted to expand the acceptance of Chinese medicine, it is that western people discovered the benefits of Chinese medicine for their health maintenance and disease treatment, and for this reason the West accepted Chinese medicine.

对于西方人而言，中医是陌生人。他们感到新奇，魔术那样神秘，探不到底。他们要真正了解，理解中医，把中医看成是自家人，需要有一个过程，需要时间。他们有着自身习染极深的固有的立场，原则，标准，并要求中医也入其毂中。然而中医有中医的性格，有几千年来形成的自己的立场，原则和标准，要轻易放弃它们，又谈何容易！这就构成了两种不同文化之间的冲突。所以，当我们遇到双方发生龃龉，发生争论，我们不要感到奇怪，不要因之觝牾，更不必气馁。把它们看成是异文化之间碰触过程中必然会有的现象，是一个历史过程，那样我们就会心平气和，静观其变，适当应对。最后和最好的结果，必然是双方的和谐相处和协调合作。这一前景是可遇可期的。

Most western people feel Chinese medicine is an enigma: ancient, mysterious, magical, and incomprehensible. It will take time for them to know more about Chinese medicine and comprehend it. This is an inexorable process as the viewpoint, principles and standards of modern medicine have been ingrained in western correspondence with western medicine. This is a clash of cultures. Chinese doctors do not need to be apprehensive or despondent. Time will change everything, we shall calmly await and anticipate the day when western medicine will co-operate harmoniously with Chinese medicine.

但我们不会坐等那一天的到来。我们都在努力，首先要做好自己。我们明白，中医的形象是依靠全体在英中医从业者的智慧和汗水的付出竖立起来的。医生的质量，药物的质量，管理的质量，是中医立于不败之地的保证。以高质量服务于英国大众应该是我们的追求，我们的标牌。这也就成为FTCMP的宗旨。

Waiting and anticipating do not mean we do nothing. We are endeavouring to do our best for Chinese medicine in the UK. We are aware that the image and good reputation of Chinese medicine depend on the wisdom and great efforts of us all. It is our pledge and our pursuit to maintain a high level of quality of practitioners, herbal medicines and management.

我们视西医师为我们的朋友而不是对手；所有中医同业是我们的战友；一切病人好比我们的兄弟姊妹，是我们要关爱和服务的对象。医为仁术。医学为全人类的健康服务。这是医学和医生存在的普世价值。我们将为此尽我们最大的努力。

Western medical doctors, general practitioners, other health healers etc. are in our mind our friends, they are not our adversaries. Our common enemy is only one: illness. Patients are our objects of service, treated as well as our family members. Medicine is an art, encompassing kindness and the responsibility, a service for human health and treatment of diseases. These are the values of medicine worldwide. We dedicate our life to the struggle for this aim.
